Marlboro Country
Marlboro may have it wrong when it comes to lung health, but one thing they got right was the settings for their advertisements. Iconically known for their cowboys, Marlboro cultivates the image of being rough, rugged, and western.
One setting for their advertisements took place on the Diamond E Ranch located in Crook county Wyoming. Back then the ranch was owned by A.L. Ericsson. His son, Dr. Ronald Ericsson (developer of the Ericsson Method), had talked with some men working for Marlboro and when the topic of his family ranch came up he invited them down.
(A.L. can be seen in the back row wearing suspenders. His ranch hand Jim D. is kneeling in the front wearing a plaid shirt and glasses.)
In the fall Marlboro shot their May 1978 advertisements. Below are some of the magazine clippings.
